SENIOR TRAININGS STARTED.
Recently, EFVA has partnered with Senior Helpers of Central and Western Virginia to create a program to teach senior caregivers epilepsy-sensitive senior home health care. This program was initiated after three seniors contacted EFVA with inquiries. Our first major training session to home care workers about seniors and epilepsy will take place on May 26. 300,000 seniors are diagnosed with epilepsy every year in the U.S. and account for 12% of all diagnoses. Seniors with epilepsy have special concerns, such as drug interactions, depression, and greater chances of seizure-induced fractured bones after a seizure. It is important to have epilepsy-sensitive staff in homes and care companies and we are pleased to be able to help in this area.
